IDEA Information Systems won the tender ''Revealing Israel'' (''Israel Haniglait La'ain'') to establish an online picture archive
IDEA@Arc of IDEA Information Systems has been selected to construct an online picture archive for six cities within the ''TAMAR'' (National Heritage Infrastructures) project. The project will include the construction of a computerized system, managing content, workflows and presentations, and their display on the Web site. This project will amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The Prime-minister's Office has chosen Yad Ben Zvi Archive to lead the ''Israel Ha'niglait La'ayn'' project for gathering storing and cataloging photographs of the communities in Israel, and exposing them to the public on a designated web site.
The project will include an online picture storage that will display all the materials collected and cataloged, enabling smart searches and a friendly display.
The first phase of the project will include four cities: Rosh Ha'ayin, Kiryat Shmona, Sderot and Yeruham, as well as two existing databases - Yad Yitzhak Ben Zvi and ''Revealing the city'' project of Tel Aviv.
A center for community documentation will be established in each city where the pictures will be documented, scanned and cataloged within the IDEA@Arc system.
The main materials to be cataloged will be family picture-collections of local citizens that will be organized and displayed as family albums, including information about the pictures and general details about the family.
The web site will serve both as a tool for the documenting teams for cataloging and updating materials, as well as an open picture-repository for tracing and viewing pictures for the general public.
The six documentation centers will be computerized in the IDEA@Arc system and will be managed on an integrated database, divided into six information Databanks each of which will be designated to the family-albums of a certain city. This will enable the general public to perform fast and friendly searches either on all the cities' databanks or on each one separately.
Within the next five years, about twenty more documentation centers will be add to this infrastructure, in various cities throughout the country.
The construction of the internet picture archive ''Israel Revealing'' (Israel Ha'nigleit La'ayin) is a joint project of IDEA Information Systems and CDTech.
CDTech Company specializes in the development of internet applications and designing Web IT sites. The company will be responsible for the development and designing of the internet site for the project which will enable a flexible and friendly display that will include all the functionality existing in the cataloging and retrieval system of IDEA@ARC.
IDEA Information Systems will produce the infrastructure for cataloging and retrieval of the information data.
Since the project includes collecting a lot of data from many sources by many people in the field, a special and unique mechanism will be developed to allow a completely automatic absorption and cataloging of data from all the cities (pictures and metadata) within the IDEA@ARC system that will make the accumulating of materials and the cataloging an easy and efficient process.
The cataloging process will work as follows: the people in the field will fill in the items details in an excel document and will scan the pictures in the family home. The data will then be transferred - both pictures and excel file - to the documentation center manager who will register and save them in the FTP directories on IDEA's hosting site. There, the new data will be identified and will automatically be imported into The IDEA@ARC system along the opening of new records in the catalog and linking all the pictures to the relevant record in the catalog.
As part of the project the system will be installed on Idea's advanced servers' farm and the company will supply conclusive hosting (ASP) services to all the information databases including database maintenance, backups, restoring, updates and information security.
The interfacing between the two systems — IDEA's and cdtech will be done using Idea's API module.
The ''Revealing Israel'' (Israel Ha'nigleil La'ayin) project will thus join the long line of leading archives that have chosen to computerize and manage their information data by IDEA's solutions, such as Yad Vashem, Beit Lohamei Haghetaot (The Ghetto Fighters' House), The Jabotinsky Institute, Yad Ya'ari Archive, The Theater archive of Beit Ariella, The Betzalel archive, Yad Tabenkin archive, Midreshet Ben Gurion archives, The Jerusalem Archive, Massuah Institute ,Shem Olam Archive, Ginzach Kidush Ha'Shem and others.
