IDEA Information Systems, the leading software provider of integral solutions for preservation, management and exposure of institutions' information and heritage assets, has announced another successful implementation of IDEA@Arc in the Bezalel Archive in Jerusalem. The project of the computerization of Bezalel Archive included among others the conversion of tens of thousands entries describing digital objects, and the establishing of a central list of subjects (key words) and connecting them to the items and collections.
The Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design was established in 1906 by the artist Boris Schatz as the “Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts”, and is now the leading academy for art and design in Israel with a prestigious international reputation.
The Bezalel Catalogue has been established in order to document and preserve the visual history of Bezalel and the academic and artistic works of its graduates and thus, to create a history archive of the institute with an easy access to its current activities as well. The digital Catalogue allows the tracing of the graduates final art projects and academic dissertations throughout the years including their academic resume, by searching the name, department, type of art work and more. Year by year the collections are enriched by hundreds of items from the various departments of Bezalel: architecture, industrial design, ceramic and glass, jewelry making, fashion, photography, visual communication and others. In addition, The Bezalel Catalogue performs conservation and digitization of the historical documentation of the departments and assists in the digitization of other art collection.
Cataloging in the IDEA@Arc system provides the integration of various collections of information, which allows visitors to conduct an intuitive search on the internet, and enables an easy access to the information for students and lecturers in the institute as well as for the open public.
