American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee automates its global archives with IDEA Information Systems
Mishmar Ha'Emek, Israel - July 19, 2009-Idea Information Systems, a leading provider of integrated management solutions for Archives, Libraries and Museums (ALMs), announced today at the SAA Annual Meeting another successful implementation of its IDEA@ARC product. American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) completed the first step of automating its global archives, using the IDEA@ARC archival management solution.
The JDC project will archive more than 3 million documents, more than 150,000 files, and a wide variety of materials such as albums, photographs, name databases, video and audio recordings, reports, publications, books, research, and others. With Idea@ARC, JDC will now be able to manage its branches around the world with one common data base. The new system is designed to let JDC users search for information located in all JDC branches from anywhere in the world simply and easily, and to enable JDC to make available in the future a portion of its archived material to the general public for viewing over the Internet.
IDEA Information Systems is a leading provider of archiving systems worldwide. It has, specialized in automating archives for leading museums and libraries, including Yad Vashem, the Judah L. Magnes Museum and archive in Berkeley CA, the Ghetto Fighters’ House archive, the Holocaust Museum in Virginia, the Jabotinsky archive, the Ganzach Kiddush Hashem archives, the Shem Olam archive, and others.
According to IDEA’s CEO Gil Lin, one of the strengths of Idea@ARC is its handling of all types of archived materials efficiently. “We integrate a variety of cultural information — physical, digital and logical — in a single system,” he said. He added that the system is compliant with all the leading archiving standards (EAD, Dublin Core, ISAD(G), ISSAR), making it possible to share information with other systems easily.
Founded in 1914, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) gives global expression to the principle that all Jews are responsible for one another. Working on behalf of North America’s Jewish federations, JDC is dedicated to rescuing those in danger, providing relief to Jews in distress, and revitalizing Jewish communities. JDC is committed to helping Israel’s most vulnerable citizens overcome the social challenges they still face through special partnerships and innovation. In the spirit of ''healing the world,'' JDC also offers non-sectarian disaster relief and longer-term development assistance worldwide.
